There's a country song with the catchy little phrase: "When was the last time you did something for the first time?" Those words have (annoyingly) stuck with me because, well, I haven't done very much at all for the first time in a long time. This is not good.

Christmas has come and gone and the ceaseless conveyor belt of time carries us on into a brave new year, a year that one can only pray will include an impeachment hearing.

Simply allowing yourself to sit quietly in the in-between times allows you to make meaning of what has passed, and to prepare for what is coming.

It’s terrifying to lose what you valued, disorienting not to know who or where you are, frightening to face into the darkness, but it’s also freeing.
