The horrible things do not negate the beauty of the world, but neither does the beauty negate the horror. They co-exist, and not necessarily in any sort of balance.

The winter solstice marks both an end and a beginning, a tipping point.  The power, the crisis of this moment, was keenly felt by our ancestors. 

We live in a worldwide web far more intricate and powerful than the one built by human technologies: it is a web of Life.
