We tell ourselves all sorts of stories. The problem is, our stories are often wrong.

One of my favorite quotes, torn and taped to my desk, is this one, attributed to Joseph Campbell: “We must be willing to let go of the life we have planned so as to have the life that is waiting for us.”

It is far too easy to become wrapped up in what is “wrong” in our lives, far too easy to slip into self-pity and to forget that this moment is but a point on an infinite trajectory.

Trust is tricky. It’s all very easy to have trust when everything is going swimmingly; it’s another thing altogether to maintain total trust when you’re hanging on by your fingernails.

“We must be willing to let go of this life we have planned in order to have the life that is waiting for us.”

Letting go and allowing, rather than holding fast to a dubious certainty, is the journey to something more. It is the journey that reveals what has been in you all along.
